Ikea has plans to get into the smart home device business.
Below is a diagram of the Ikea smart lighting hub and bulbs from its filings with the FCC. The Swedish furniture store filed several documents to test WiFi and ZigBee wireless modules. During the summer, the forms asked for confidentiality until January 4, which leads me to think that a launch at CES is imminent. Ikea is no stranger to technology, having invested in wireless charging pads on furniture and thinking about how a smart kitchen would function. My real question is how it will support these bulbs over time, and whether or not they become just another IoT security risk.
